The characteristics of Hoploscaphites are the striations engraved on the shell surface and the small, aligned wart-like protrusions.
It lived in the Late Cretaceous. It has been widely discovered in places such as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, the United States, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Greenland, and India, but it is a representative ammonite of South Dakota, USA.

Hoploscaphites comprimus with bite marks (photographed in 2017)
Traces of being bitten by something remain.

As is typical of Cretaceous ammonites, it has a complex suture line on the inside of its shell.

Personally, I find it difficult to distinguish from the ammonite Discoscaphites, which is also found in South Dakota.
