Tyrannosaurus Cannibalism: Scars on Fossils

Published:

A research team from Yale University in the US announced that "after examining Tyrannosaurus fossils found in North America, we found tooth marks of the same Tyrannosaurus on three leg bones and one forelimb bone."

While stating that "it is unknown whether the wounds were made during a fight or by eating carrion," they estimate that "they may have practiced cannibalism among the same species."
Among modern carnivorous reptiles, cases of cannibalism have been reported in crocodiles.
