Triceratops and Torosaurus Actually the Same Genus
Published:
Research has been published stating that the Late Cretaceous ornithischian marginocephalian ceratopsians [Triceratops] and [Torosaurus], previously thought to be different species, are of the same genus.
A research team from Montana State University examined over 50 fossil specimens and concluded from the structure and thickness of the bone tissue that [Triceratops] and [Torosaurus] are the same genus.
Also, while Triceratops skulls have been found from juveniles to adults, those with the characteristics of Torosaurus have only been found in adults. Therefore, they proposed the theory that Torosaurus is a mature individual of Triceratops.
As of 2018, this theory has been refuted. It is believed that "Triceratops and Torosaurus are different genera."
